Since information has been circulating on social media regarding the presence and activity of Alessandro Minutella in the Archdiocese of Malta, the Archbishop wishes to clarify that Alessandro Minutella, a former priest, was excommunicated for heresy and schism by a decree of the Archbishop of Palermo on 15th August 2018. He was later dismissed from the clerical state by Pope Francis; this was made known through a decree of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on 13th January 2022. Therefore, it is not permitted for him to administer the sacraments or to carry out the ministry of a priest.

The Archbishop reminds the faithful that those who attend meetings and activities organised by Minutella place themselves at serious risk regarding the integrity of their faith and compromise their communion with the Catholic Church. Catholics are therefore urged not to participate in meetings and activities organised by Minutella and those who accompany him.

We pray for a continued strengthening of unity and harmony within the Church.
