Archbishop Charles Scicluna is entrusting the Parish of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Ħal Balzan to Fr Bernard Micallef, the Parish of St Cajetan in Ħamrun to Fr Stefan Galea, the Parish of Our Lady of Pompei in Marsaxlokk to Fr Roderick Baldacchino, and the Parish of St Lucy in Mtarfa to Fr Karl Andrew Schembri.
The Archbishop thanks Fr Karm Farrugia, Fr Walter Cauchi, Fr George Spiteri, and Fr René Vella for their service in their respective parishes. The first two priests will be assigned to pastoral work within the diocese. Fr George Spiteri will be assigned to pastoral work in the Parish of St Catherine Virgin and Martyr in Żejtun. Fr René Vella will join the team of priests working pastorally at Mater Dei Hospital.
The Archbishop has also appointed Fr James Saydon as the Vice-Rector of the Archbishop’s Seminary in Tal-Virtù. The Archbishop thanks Fr Carlo Calleja for his work at the Seminary.

Information about the priests
Fr Bernard Micallef was born on August 15, 1988. He received his formation for the priesthood at the Archbishop’s Major Seminary of Malta and completed his philosophical and theological studies at the University of Malta. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Policy. He was ordained a priest on April 7, 2018. Fr Bernard forms part of the Diocesan Sports Commission and is the Ecclesiastical Assistant for Żgħażagħ Azzjoni Kattolika. He has served in the parishes of St George in Ħal Qormi and in Żejtun and was also a chaplain at Junior College.
Fr Stefan Galea was born on December 29, 1976. He received his formation for the priesthood at the Archbishop’s Major Seminary of Malta. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the University of Malta and graduated as a teacher from the same university in the year 2000. He was ordained a priest on June 23, 2010. He has served in the parishes of St Cajetan in Ħamrun, Naxxar, and Floriana.
Fr Roderick Baldacchino was born on July 11, 1995. He received his formation for the priesthood at the Archbishop’s Major Seminary of Malta and completed his philosophical and theological studies at the University of Malta. He was ordained a priest on May 8, 2021, and served in the parish of Mosta.
Fr Karl Andrew Schembri was born on March 12, 1995. He received his formation for the priesthood at the Archbishop’s Major Seminary of Malta and completed his philosophical and theological studies at the University of Malta. He was ordained a priest on April 20, 2024, and served in the parish of Rabat.
Fr James Saydon was born on November 23, 1990. He received his formation for the priesthood at the Archbishop’s Major Seminary of Malta and completed his philosophical and theological studies at the University of Malta. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 2016. He served in the parish of Tal-Ibraġ and was a chaplain at the Archbishop’s Minor Seminary. He is the Director of the Seminary Vocations Centre.
