Over 100 homeless and vulnerable people supported by Caritas of Albano joined Pope Leo XIV for a meal in the gardens of Castel Gandolfo, where the Pontiff is spending much of his summer break.
The initiative continues the practice established by Pope Francis, who frequently invited disadvantaged groups to share meals with him. Many of the attendees at Castel Gandolfo face homelessness or other personal difficulties, and the gathering was coordinated by the Diocese of Albano Laziale together with the Borgo Laudato Si’ centre.
Speaking off-the-cuff during the meal, Pope Leo stressed that every individual reflects the image of God, describing humanity as His “most beautiful creation”. He urged those present never to forget this truth, affirming that “the presence of God can be encountered in every person”.
The Pope praised the organisers for their efforts in making the event possible before underlining that Christian life is not limited to attending Mass but is lived fully by embracing the values that define discipleship.
Cardinal Fabio Baggio, director of the Borgo Laudato Si’, remarked that the Pope is realising Pope Francis’ vision of the centre, not merely as a facility, but as a way of embodying the Gospel by opening doors to those in need.
