The Church in Malta and Gozo are launching a Maltese version of the official hymn for the 2025 Jubilee with the theme, ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. Next year, the Church and Catholics from around the world are called to be a source of hope, unity and compassion within their communities.
The hymn was originally written in Italian by Prof. Pierangelo Sequeri, with the music composition by Maestro Francesco Meneghello, tackling themes such as creation, fraternity, the goodness of God and hope. The lyrics were translated to Maltese by Francesco Pio Attard and sung by the Gozo Diocesan Choir.
In preparation for the 2025 Jubilee, Pope Francis published the Bull of Indiction, Spes non confundit, that was translated to Maltese. This is the first time in history that an important document by the Pope has been translated to Maltese for the official website of The Holy See.
Pope Francis expressed his wish for the Jubilee to be “a moment of genuine, personal encounter with the Lord Jesus, the “door” (cf. Jn 10:7.9) of our salvation, whom the Church is charged to proclaim always, everywhere and to all as “our hope” (1 Tim 1:1).” Although this can be done through a physical pilgrimage, we are invited to take ourselves on a profound spiritual pilgrimage that transforms us from within, with acts of mercy, prayer and reflection.
The 2025 Jubilee begins officially on Christmas Eve this year and is then celebrated among dioceses all around the world on the 29th of December 2024.
