Dear brothers and sisters, happy New Year!

On this day, when we celebrate Mary, Mother of God, we place the new time given to us under her caring gaze. May she watch over us this year.

Today the Gospel reveals to us that the greatness of Mary does not consist in performing some extraordinary deed; rather, while the shepherds, having received the announcement from the angels, hurry towards Bethlehem (cf… Read more »

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Bħal-lum nibdew is-sena billi nfakkru lil omm Ġesù. Fil-fatt, fis-Sliema u l-Qaddisa insellmulha b’dan it-titlu tant sabiħ: ‘Qaddisa Marija, Omm Alla’. L-omm tgħallimna l-ikbar barka: l-barka tal-imħabba, tal-mogħdrija u tal-ħajja.

Is-Salm tant sabiħ li smajna kantat illum, is-Salm 67, għandu frażi sabiħa li nixtieq noffriha bħala barka wkoll fuq pajjiżna u fuq id-dinja: “Iħenn għalina Alla, u jberikna” (Salm 67:1)… Read more »

Thanksgiving Mass marking the close of the year

  St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Tmint ijiem wara l-Milied infakkru dak li l-ġenituri ta’ Ġesù għamlu mat-tifel bħala tifel Lhudi: fit-tmien jum ippreżżentawh għaċ-ċirkonċiżjoni, għall-ħtin, u formalment ingħata l-isem magħżul għalih.

L-isem iddikjarah Ġużeppi u kkonfermatu Marija. Imma aħna nafu li fl-Evanġelju ta’ San Luqa (Lq 1:31), lil Marja l-anġlu jgħidilha: “U int issemmih Ġesù”. Fl-Evanġelju ta’ San Mattew, fil-ħolma, l-anġlu lil Ġużeppi jgħidlu li “hi jkollha tifel u inti ssemmih Ġesù” (Mt 1:21)… Read more »
