Stay with him – Bishop Galea-Curmi

  Saint John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Marru… raw… u baqgħu miegħu” (Ġw 1:39). Dawn it-tliet kelmiet għadna kif smajnihom fl-Evanġelju tal-lum dwar dawk iż-żewġ dixxipli li kienu mixjin wara Ġesù. Huma kienu dixxipli ta’ Ġwanni l-Battista, u meta Ġwanni qalilhom “Araw il-Ħaruf ta’ Alla” (Ġw 1:36), huma mxew wara Ġesù li beda djalogu magħhom. Ġesù staqsihom x’riedu, huma staqsewh fejn joqgħod, u Ġesù għamlilhom stedina: “ejjew u taraw” (Ġw 1:39)… Read more »

A hole in the ceiling – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Bl-Ingliż hemm espressjoni li tgħid: “Where there is a will, there is a way”. Naraha li tispjega b’mod tajjeb ħafna l-ġrajja li smajna llum mill-Evanġelju skont San Mark, fejn hemm dawn l-erbgħa min-nies li refgħu lil dan li kien mifluġ, u riedu jeħduh quddiem Ġesù. Riedu li jwassluh hemmhekk, quddiemu, akkost ta’ kollox. Meta waslu, sabu n-nies, ġewwa mimli fejn kien qed jitkellem Ġesù, barra wkoll, ma setgħux jgħaddu, u qalu: xorta neħduh quddiem Ġesù! … Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 13th January

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Samuel 9:1-4,17-19; 10:1a
Psalm: 20 (21):2-3,4-5,6-7

Gospel: Mark 2:13-17

In those days, Jesus went out again beside the sea; the whole crowd gathered around him, and he taught them. As he was walking along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. And as he sat at dinner in Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were also sitting with Jesus and his disciples—for there were many who followed him.

When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” When Jesus heard this, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”
