The Gospel of the day: 24th April

Readings of the day

First Reading: Acts 12:24 – 13:5a
Psalm: 66 (67):2-3,5,6,8

Gospel: John 12:44-50

In those days, Jesus cried aloud: “Whoever believes in me believes not in me but in him who sent me. And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness. I do not judge anyone who hears my words and does not keep them, for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

The one who rejects me and does not receive my word has a judge; on the last day the word that I have spoken will serve as judge, for I have not spoken on my own, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment about what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life… Read more »

Let’s appreciate the value of life – Bishop Galea Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Ma fehmux x’ried jgħidilhom” (Ġw 10:6). Dan huwa li naqraw fl-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann meta Ġesù kien qed ikellem lin-nies bil-parabboli u huma ma fehmuhx. Mhijiex l-ewwel darba li ma fehmux. Ġesù kien qed ifisser kif hu r-ragħaj it-tajjeb, imbagħad ikompli jispjega wkoll kif hu l-bieb tan-ngħaġ. Jispjegalhom bil-parabboli, imma huma ma fehmux. Imma fl-aħħar jgħidilhom xi ħaġa li nixtieq li llum nieqfu speċjalment fuqha għaliex tiġbor ħafna l-missjoni ta’ Ġesù fost in-nies: “Jien ġejt biex ikollkom il-ħajja, u l-ħajja bil-kotra” (Ġw 10:10)… Read more »

He loved us with so much care – Bishop Galea-Curmi

  Saint Publius Church, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Araw b’liema għożża ħabbna l-Missier” (1 Ġw 3:1). Dan hu li smajna llum fl-Ewwel Ittra ta’ San Ġwann Appostlu, u dan hu l-messaġġ importanti li jrid iwassal lilna Ġesù, lil kull wieħed u waħda minna llum, meta jitkellem fuqu nnifsu bħala r-ragħaj it-tajjeb. Ġesù jgħid: “Jiena r-ragħaj it-tajjeb” (Ġw 10:11).

Għaliex jgħid li hu “t-tajjeb”? Hemm rgħajja ħżiena? Fi żmien Ġesù kien hemm rgħajja li ma kinux jaqdu r-responsabbiltà tagħhom b’mod tajjeb… Read more »

You are shepherds but also part of the flock – The Archbishop to the new priests

Thanksgiving Mass with the newly ordained priests

The Shrine of Our Lady of Mellieħa, Mellieħa

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Min jaf kemm-il darba lil Ġesù ngħidulu dak li qalulu l-Lhud: “Kemm se ddum taqlgħalna ruħna?” (Ġw10:24), għax jitlobna xi ħaġa u nħossuha tassew diffiċli. Aħna nafu li Ġesù hu l-Iben t’Alla. Ma naħsibx li għandna problema bl-identità tiegħu. Imma l-isfida li jagħmlilna hi li nkunu parti mill-merħla tiegħu.

“In-nagħaġ tiegħi jisimgħu leħni, u jiena nagħrafhom, u huma jimxu warajja” (Ġw 22:27)… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 23rd April

Readings of the day

First Reading: Acts 11:19-26
Psalm: 86 (87):1-3,4-5,6-7

Gospel: John 10:22-30

At that time the festival of the Dedication took place in Jerusalem. It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon. So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered, “I have told you, and you do not believe… Read more »
