The mother of Jesus and his brothers arrived at the house. Standing outside, they sent word to Jesus and called him. A crowd seated around him told him, “Your mother and your brothers and your sisters are outside asking for you.” But he said to them in reply, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”

First stay with him, then work for him – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Tela’ fuq l-għolja” (Mk 3:13). Hekk naqraw fuq Ġesù fl-Evanġelju skont San Mark. Mal-ewwel, kif naraw li “tela’ fuq l-għolja”, hu ċar li se jkollna ġrajja ta’ importanza kbira, għaliex fl-Iskrittura l-għolja hi dejjem il-post fejn hemm manifestazzjoni speċjali ta’ Alla jew ġrajja partikulari. Fil-fatt, hawnhekk Ġesù jagħżel it-tnax-l appostlu, u għandna wkoll ismihom f’din is-silta.

Nixtieq li naraw din is-silta qasira u sabiħa li fiha hemm diversi punti li jolqtu lilna lkoll fil-ħajja tagħna… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: proclaiming the Gospel is not wasted time

  St Peter's Square, the Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

The Gospel today recounts the vocation of the first disciples (cf. Mk 1:14-20). Calling others to join His mission is one of the first things Jesus does at the beginning of His public life: He approaches some young fishermen and invites them to follow Him to “become fishers of men” (v. 17). And this tells us something important: the Lord loves to involve us in His work of salvation, He wants us to be active with Him, He wants us to be responsible and protagonists… Read more »

St Paul’s conversion is an invitation to our conversion – The Archbishop

Mass on the feast of the conversion of St Paul

  St Paul's Cathedral, Mdina

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Smajna lill-Appostlu Missierna stess jiġbor fi ftit kliem l-esperjenza li qegħdin niċċelebraw. F’waħda mill-ittri tiegħu li smajna fit-tieni qari llum jgħid li Alla li sejjaħlu sa mill-bidu fil-misteru tal-ħolqien tiegħu, laqqgħu ma’ ibnu Ġesù u tah missjoni (ara Gal 1:16). Dan li qed niċċelebraw llum.

L-ewwel nett qegħdin nirringrazzjaw lil Alla tal-Appostlu Missierna San Pawl. Aħna m’għandniex festa tat-twelid ta’ San Pawl bħalma għandna t-twelid ta’ San Ġwann il-Battista… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 22nd January

Readings of the day

First Reading: Acts 28:1-10
Psalm: 15:1-2,5,7-8,11

Gospel: Mt 25:31-40

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left.

Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’”

May the Lord grant us the light of his voice in our life circumstances – The Archbishop

  Saint Paul's Cathedral, Mdina

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Bix-xieraq niċċelebraw it-titular ta’ dan il-Katidral, il-konverżjoni ta’ San Pawl. Anke għaliex fil-konverżjoni tiegħu, l-Appostlu Missierna, aħna naraw, nqimu, u nfakkru l-konverżjoni tagħna. Stedina li aħna nbiddlu l-ħsieb tagħna, u dejjem naħsbu fil-Mulej Ġesù, u kif jaħseb il-Mulej Ġesù.

Din is-sena partikolari li fiha pajjiżna jagħlaq sittin sena bħala Stat Sovran, 50 sena Repubblika, nixtieq nitlob ħafna l-interċessjoni tal-Appostlu Missierna fuq il-poplu tagħna… Read more »
