Gospel: Luke 13:18-21

In those days, Jesus said: “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what should I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in the garden; it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.”

And again he said, “To what should I compare the kingdom of God? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.” Read more »

Let us always do good – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Hemm sitt ijiem li fihom wieħed għandu jaħdem; mela fihom ejjew biex titfejqu, u mhux is-Sibt!” (Lq 13:14). Din hija d-dikjarazzjoni li għamel il-kap tas-Sinagoga, u skont l-Evanġelju, għamilha “b’saħna fuqu”. Ir-raġuni kienet illi Ġesù kien għadu kif fejjaq mara li kienet ilha tmintax-il sena sħaħ marida u, minħabba l-mard tagħha, kienet ukoll milwija ħafna, lanqas kienet tista’ toqgħod dritta.

X’naraw fl-attitudni ta’ Ġesù, mbagħad min-naħa l-oħra, tal-kap tas-Sinagoga? … Read more »

The Pope’s prayer for peace around the world

Mary, look at us! We stand here before you. You are our Mother, and you know our struggles and our hurts. Queen of Peace, you suffer with us and for us, as you see so many of your children suffering from the conflicts and wars that are tearing our world apart.

This is a dark hour. This is a dark hour, Mother. In this dark hour, we look to you, and in the light of your countenance we entrust ourselves and our problems to your maternal Heart, which knows our anxieties and fears… Read more »

The beauty of love – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of the Sisters of Charity, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Mgħallem, liema hu l-kmandament il-kbir tal-liġi?” (Mt 22:36). Din il-mistoqsija li għamlu lil Ġesù – kif smajna fl-Evanġelju llum – kienet fi żmien Ġesù mistoqsija li jagħmlu l-għorrief biex jagħżlu liema fost il-kmandamenti kien l-iktar wieħed importanti. Kellhom diversi liġijiet u kmandamenti – kien hemm ’l fuq minn 600, uħud jgħidulek x’għandek tagħmel u oħrajn x’m’għandekx tagħmel. U kienu jiddilettaw jagħmlu din id-diskussjoni biex jagħrfu liema hu l-kmandament l-iktar importanti… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 30th October

Readings of the day

First Reading: Romans 8:12-17
Psalm: 67 (68):2 & 4,6-7ab,20-21

Gospel: Luke 13:10-17

Now Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And just then there appeared a woman with a spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years. She was bent over and was quite unable to stand up straight.

When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your ailment.” When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God. But the leader of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had cured on the sabbath, kept saying to the crowd, “There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be cured, and not on the sabbath day.”

But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites! … Read more »

Pope Francis calls for a ceasefire in the Holy Land

Pope Francis has called for a ceasefire in the Holy Land. Addressing the faithful gathered in St Peter’s Square for his Sunday Angelus, the Holy Father invited everyone to “continue to pray … for the serious situation in Palestine and Israel”.
