Pope at Angelus: Do I know how to forgive?

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

Today’s Gospel presents us a surprising parable: the master of a vineyard goes out from the first dawn until evening to call in some workers, but in the end, he pays everyone equally, even those who have only worked one hour (cf. Mt 20:1-16). It would seem an injustice, but the parable is not to be read through wage criteria; rather, it intends to show us the criteria of God, who does not calculate our merits, but loves us as children… Read more »

Following the recitation of the Angelus prayer on 24 September, Pope Francis marked World Migrant and Refugee Day, echoing his message on the fundamental importance of the right to choose whether to migrate or to stay in one’s homeland.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Free to choose whether to migrate or to stay,” underscores the critical need for migration to be a voluntary and dignified choice, rather than a desperate necessity… Read more »

Psalm: 125 (126):1-2ab,2cd-3,4-5,6

Gospel: Luke 8:16-18

“No one after lighting a lamp hides it under a jar, or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret that will not become known and come to light. Then pay attention to how you listen; for to those who have, more will be given; and from those who do not have, even what they seem to have will be taken away.”  Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 23rd September

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Timothy 6:13-16
Psalm: 99 (100):2,3,4,5

Gospel: Luke 8:4-15

In those days, a great crowd gathered and people from town after town came to Jesus, and he said in a parable: “A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell on the path and was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up. Some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered for lack of moisture. Some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew with it and choked it. Some fell into good soil, and when it grew, it produced a hundredfold.” As he said this, he called out, “Let anyone with ears to hear listen!”

Then his disciples asked him what this parable meant. He said, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but to others I speak in parables, so that “looking they may not perceive, and listening they may not understand.’

“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones on the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. The ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy… Read more »
