The Gospel of the day: 22nd August

Readings of the day

First Reading: Judges 6:11-24a
Psalm: 84 (85):9,11-12,13-14

Gospel: Matthew 19:23-30

In those days, Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astounded and said, “Then who can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”

Then Peter said in reply, “Look, we have left everything and followed you… Read more »

Let us not stand there waiting – Bishop Galea-Curmi

  Il-Knisja Parrokkjali tal-Lunzjata, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Mara, il-fidi tiegħek hi kbira!” (Mt 15:28) Hekk jgħid Ġesù lil din il-mara, kif smajna fl-Evanġelju llum. Imma ħaġa li tolqotna hi li qabel ma jasal biex jgħidilha hekk, qisu jagħtiha ħafna terturi. Qabel ma jfaħħar il-fidi tagħha u jfejjaq lil bintha, iġibha bit-tul.

Jolqotna dan l-episodju għax għall-bidu qisu mhux Ġesù li nafu. Kif smajna fl-Akklamazzjoni ta’ qabel l-Evanġelju “Ġesù dar il-Galilija kollha… jfejjaq kull xorta ta’ mard u dgħufija fost il-poplu” (Mt 4:23)… Read more »

Let’s support each other in mental health – The Archbishop

Mass on the 20th Sunday of Ordinary Time

The Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Paceville

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Dari dar it-talb tissejjaħ għall-popli kollha” (Iż 56:7). Din hija l-profezija minn Iżaija li qrajna llum u li tixraq ħafna wkoll għal din l-okkażjoni li fiha qegħdin niċċelebraw il-50 anniversarju mit-tberik ta’ din il-knisja. Hija dar it-talb, hija dar il-Mulej. U tissejjaħ hekk għall-popli kollha.

Fid-dawl tal-Evanġelju li għadna kemm smajna, nifhmu li meta Isaija jifhem: “il-popli kollha” qed jinkludi mhux biss lil ħutu l-Lhud imma wkoll lil dawk li ġejjin mill-ġnus… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: What is my faith like?

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

Today’s Gospel recounts the encounter of Jesus with a Canaanite woman outside the territory of Israel (cf. Mt 15:21-28). She asks him to liberate her daughter, who is tormented by a demon. But the Lord pays no attention to her. She insists, and the disciples advise Jesus to acknowledge her so she would stop… Read more »

Gospel: Matthew 19:16-22

In those days, someone came to him and said, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” He said to him, “Which ones?”

And Jesus said, “You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Honour your father and mother; also, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The young man said to him, “I have kept all these; what do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this word, he went away grieving, for he had many possessions.
