The Gospel of the day: 18th July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Exodus 2:1-15a
Psalm: 68 (69), 3.14.30-31.33-34

Gospel: Matthew 10: 20-24

In those days, Jesus began to reproach the cities in which most of his deeds of power had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the deeds of power done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, on the day of judgment it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon than for you.

And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? … Read more »

We trust everything in the hands of the Virgin Mary – Archbishop

  Is-Santwarju tal-Madonna tal-Karmnu, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Din is-sena, aħna u niċċelebraw il-festa solenni ta’ Sidtna Marija taħt it-titlu sabiħ tal-Madonna tal-Karmnu, għandna fostna r-relikwa tal-labtu li jlibbes lil San Ġwanni Pawlu II. Ta’ żagħżugħ, skopra d-devozzjoni lejn il-Madonna, mgħallma minn San Luiġi Grignion Maria de Montfort, u Karol Wojtyla, ta’ żagħżugħ, ikkonsagra ruħu lill-Madonna. Il-Formola tal-Konsagrazzjoni li kkompona San Luiġi Grignion Maria de Montfort – jafuh ħafna dawk li huma midħla tal-Legion of Mary – tibda b’dawn iż-żewġ kelmiet: ‘Totus Tuus’, – ‘Jiena kollni tiegħek’… Read more »

Let us be careful – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Oqogħdu attenti mill-bnedmin!” (Mt 10:17) Dan huwa l-kliem li jgħid Ġesù lill-appostli tiegħu llum, fl-Evanġelju skont San Mattew. Jgħid dan il-kliem mhux biex inissel il-biża’ jew l-ansjetà fl-appostli tiegħu, imma biex jgħinhom ħalli jagħrfu joqogħdu attenti.

Hawnhekk Ġesù jsemmi erba’ tipi ta’ annimali, b’mod figurattiv, u jwassal messaġġ tajjeb ħafna permezz tagħhom, messaġġ li nistgħu nifhmuh. Jgħid: “qed nibgħatkom bħal nagħaġ qalb l-ilpup” (Mt 10:16)… Read more »

Restoration of Qrendi parish church façade inaugurated

Tlesta l‑proġett ta’ restawr fuq il‑faċċata, u fuq il‑ġenb tal‑kampnar tax‑xellug tal‑knisja parrokkjali tal‑Qrendi, proġett li sar b’investiment ta’ €84,000 li 80% minnhom kienu kofinanzjati minn fondi tal‑Unjoni Ewropea. Il‑proġett ġie inawgurat mis‑Segretarju Parlamentari għall‑Fondi Ewropej Chris Bonett u mill‑Isqof Awżiljarju Joseph Galea‑Curmi. Preżenti għall‑inawgurazzjoni kien hemm ukoll is‑Segretarju Amministrattiv tal‑Arċidjoċesi ta’ Malta Michael Pace Ross, l‑Amministratur Parrokkjali Dun Mario Said.

Permezz ta’ dan ix‑xogħol ta’ restawr, li għalih ikkontribwixxew ukoll il‑parruċċani tal‑Qrendi, tnaddfet il‑ġebla tal‑faċċata u tal‑kampnar, u xi wħud mill‑ġebel kellu jinbidel minħabba deterjorazzjoni tal‑ġebla kawża tal‑espożizzjoni għall‑elementi naturali u t‑tniġġis tal‑arja.

Waqt l‑inawgurazzjoni ta’ dan il‑proġett, l‑Isqof Joseph Galea‑Curmi rringrazzja lil dawk kollha li taw sehemhom f’din il‑ħidma flimkien ta’ restawr tal‑knisja tal‑Qrendi… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: Do I sow goodness?

  Saint Peter's Square, The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

Today the Gospel presents us the parable of the sower (cf. Mt 13:1-23). “Sowing” is a very beautiful image, and Jesus uses it to describe the gift of his Word. Let us imagine a seed: it is tiny, barely visible, but it makes plants grow that bear fruit. The Word of God is thus: think of the Gospel, a small book, simple and within reach of all, that produces new life in those who receive it… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 17th July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Ex 1:8-14,22
Psalm: 123 (124):1-3,4-6,7-8

Gospel: Mt 10:34 – 11:1

In those days, Jesus told his apostles: “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s foes will be members of one’s own household.

Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.”

Now when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and proclaim his message in their cities.  Read more »

We pray for our country that the Lord finds us willing to change our lives for the better – The Archbishop

Mass on the 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time

The Church of St Maximilian Kolbe, Buġibba

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Waħda miċ-ċirkustanzi fejn Ġesù stess jispjega t-tifsira, il-parabbola tiegħu u jgħidilna wkoll għaliex jitkellem bil-parabboli. Ħin minnhom jitkellem dwar uħud min-nies ta’ żmienu li kellhom, jgħid hu stess, qalbhom iebsa.

L-ewwel talba li nagħmlu llum fid-dawl tal-kelma tiegħu hi li l-Mulej irattab il-qalb tagħna. Irattab il-qalb tagħna għal xulxin u fuq kollox għall-kelma tiegħu li tistedinna nħobbu lil xulxin, nifhmu lil xulxin, u nagħdru lil xulxin… Read more »
