The Lord’s strength heals us and delivers us from evil – The Archbishop

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Qegħdin fl-ewwel kapitlu tal-Evanġelju ta’ San Mark u x-xena teħodna mal-ewwel f’Kafarnahum. Kafarnahum kienet belt fuq l-għadira jew il-baħar tant kbir tal-Galilija jew ta’ Tiberijadi. Ġesù adotta din il-belt biex tkun qisha l-hub tat-tliet snin li għamel iterraq jgħallem u jipprietka, ifejjaq u jkeċċi x-xjaten fil-Galilija u fil-Lhudija.

Illum ir-rakkont tal-Evanġelju jeħodna propju fis-sinagoga ta’ Kafarnahum; il-fdalijiet tagħha għadhom magħna sal-lum… Read more »

Generous people – Bishop Galea-Curmi

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Qegħdin hawnhekk fil-bidu tal-ministeru ta’ Ġesù. L-Evanġelju skont San Mark jgħidilna li issa Ġwanni hu arrestat, u Ġesù jibda jxandar l-Aħbar it-Tajba. U jibda bil-kliem: “Iż-żmien huwa mitmum. Is-Saltna ta’ Alla waslet, indmu u emmnu fl-Evanġelju”, kliem li juri wkoll ir-rabta ma’ Ġwanni l-Battista.

Nixtieq li naħsbu ftit fuq il-mod kif Ġesù jqiegħed din l-Aħbar it-Tajba. Jgħid: “is-Saltna ta’ Alla waslet”, imbagħad jistieden lin-nies biex jindmu u jemmnu fl-Evanġelju… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 11th January

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Sam 1, 9-20
Psalm: 1 Sam 2, 1.4-5.6-7.8abcd

Gospel: Mk 1, 21b-28

In those days, when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue at Capernaum and taught. They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? … Read more »

Pope at Angelus: prayer is the key that opens our heart to the Lord

  The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

The Gospel of today’s Liturgy shows us the scene with which Jesus’ public life begins: he, who is the Son of God and the Messiah, goes to the banks of the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist. After about thirty years of hidden life, Jesus does not present himself with a miracle, or by rising to the podium to teach… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 10th January

First Reading: 1 Sam 1, 1-8
Psalm: 115 (116), 12-13.14-17.18-19

Gospel: Mk 1, 14-20

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.” As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fish for people.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him.

As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. Immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him.  Read more »

Mass on the feast of the baptism of the Lord

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

Żgur li ħafna minna hawnhekk ma niftakrux dakinhar li tgħammidna. Konna żgħar ħafna, forsi kellna ftit ġranet jew ġimgħat, u għalhekk ma konniex aħna li ġejna għall-magħmudija tagħna. Kienu l-ġenituri li ġarrewna u li għamlu din l-għażla għalina għax riedu li mill-ewwel mumenti ta’ ħajjitna jagħmlu għalina l-isbaħ u l-aħjar għażliet.

Dakinhar tal-magħmudija, kienu l-ġenituri tagħna li għamlu l-istqarrija tal-fidi u riedu li aħna nsiru ħaġa waħda ma’ Ġesù Kristu u nkunu, u nagħrfu li aħna, ulied għeżież ta’ Alla… Read more »
