Gospel: Luke 9:18-22

Once when Jesus was praying in solitude, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’”

Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said in reply, “The Messiah of God.” He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone… Read more »

The soul that wants to see Jesus is learning to speak the language of love – Archbishop

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Anke Erodi t-Tetrarka, titnissel fil-qalb tiegħu kurżità biex jara lil Ġesù (ara Lq 9:9). U għaliex? Għaliex kien sema’ dwar il-fejqan li kien qed jagħmel l-Imgħallem li kien qiegħed ukoll iwassal lill-poplu ta’ Alla f’isem il-Mulej.

Fl-Evanġelju ta’ San Luqa nsibu kemm-il darba riferiment għall-qawwa li kienet toħroġ minn Ġesù, għall-fatt li kien jitkellem bħal bniedem li għandu l-awtorità, għall-qawwa li kellu fuq ix-xjaten, fuq il-mard, fuq l-elementi tan-natura… Read more »

Contingency plan for St Albert the Great College

The Archdiocese of Malta is preparing a contingency plan to cater for students and staff of St Albert the Great College within its educational structures should the school not be in a position to function at the beginning of the 2022/23 scholastic year.

The Archdiocese, through its Secretariat for Catholic Education, has for several weeks been actively involved in talks aimed at identifying a way forward acceptable to all parties following the decision by the Dominican Order — which owns and operates the college — to dismiss its former headmaster but is disappointed to note that the issue has not been resolved just days ahead of the new term… Read more »

Fil-ktieb ta’ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince, ippubblikat kważi tmenin sena ilu (1943), u li baqa’ ktieb imfittex u ta’ ispirazzjoni kbira, hemm djalogu bejn il-volpi u l-prinċep, u l-volpi jgħidlu: ħa ngħidlek sigriet – “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

Ftakart f’din is-silta proprju fl-aħħar sentenza tal-Evanġelju tal-lum skont San Luqa, meta jgħid li Erodi beda jfittex li jara lil Ġesù (Lq 9:9)… Read more »

Humility, solidarity and protection – The Archbishop on Independence Day

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

Homily by Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna

On Independence Day 2022, allow me to share three thoughts inspired by the Word of God that we read today (Luke 14:1,7-14). In the Gospel of St Luke, Jesus recommends that people should not seek to be guests of honour at the table, but rather to occupy the more modest places; it should be left to the host to grant them social recognition and elevate their status… Read more »

Saint Matthew, apostle & evangelist – Feast
Readings of the day

First Reading: Ephesians 4:1-7,11-13
Psalm: 18:2-5

Gospel: Matthew 9:9-13

In those days, as Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard this, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”  Read more »
