Readings of the day

First Reading: Is 49, 1-6
Psalm: 138, 1-3.13-15
Second Reading: Acts 13, 22-26

Gospel: Lk 1, 57-66.80

Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. Her neighbours and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her. On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him Zechariah after his father. But his mother said, “No; he is to be called John.” They said to her, “None of your relatives has this name.”

Then they began motioning to his father to find out what name he wanted to give him. He asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And all of them were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to speak, praising God.

Fear came over all their neighbours, and all these things were talked about throughout the entire hill country of Judea. All who heard them pondered them and said, “What then will this child become?” For, indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him. The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day he appeared publicly to Israel… Read more »

An invitation for hope to overflow from our hearts – The Archbishop

Mass on the feast of the Calling of Our Lady Ta' Pinu

Ta' Pinu National Shrine , Għarb, Gozo

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Omm Ġesù qaltlu: “Ma għandhomx inbid” (Ġw 2:3). Nixtieq li llejla, fis-Solennità Tal-Madonna ta’ Pinu, nirriflettu fuq il-ħarsa ta’ Marija: ħarsa ġwejda, ħarsa umli imma ħarsa mimlija għerf, li biha tagħraf lil bniedem minn xhiex ikun għaddej. Irrealizzat li dawn iż-żewġ għarajjes minn Kana tal-Galilija, li kienu qegħdin jiċċelebraw it-tieġ tagħhom, kellhom problema u qalet lil binha x’kienet qed tinnota: “Ma għandhomx inbid”… Read more »

Proclaiming our faith without fear – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass for families, including the presentation of children born in the last two years

The Collegiate of St George, Ħal Qormi

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Nixtieqkom taħsbu ftit kieku San Ġorġ kellu jagħtina llum hawnhekk il-messaġġ l-aktar importanti għal dawk kollha li huma preżenti, u għal din il-komunità. Naħseb li kieku kellu jiġi hawn, jieħu gost f’din il-knisja Kolleġġjata, Arċimatriċi, Arċipretali, u jieħu gost bin-nies li jħobbu l-knisja u li jippreparawlu knisja daqshekk sabiħa għall-festa tiegħu. Imma fl-istess waqt, San Ġorġ, filwaqt li jieħu gost b’dak li hu sabiħ, lilna jħeġġiġna biex dejjem naħsbu f’dak li hu l-aktar imporanti fil-ħajja tagħna… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 23rd June

Readings of the day

First Reading: Gen 15, 1-12.17-18
Psalm: 104 (105), 1-2.3-4.6-7.8-9

Gospel: Mt 7, 15-20

In those days, Jesus told his disciples: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles?

In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will know them by their fruits”.  Read more »

God’s judgement and man’s judgement – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass in the memorial of St Aloysius Gonzaga

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Xi jrid jgħid biha Ġesù meta jgħidilna “Tiġġudikawx”? Hawnhekk Ġesù qed jitkellem fuq ġudizzju negattiv fuq l-oħrajn, tant hu hekk li jsemmi – jgħidha b’mod esaġerat – li int tara t-tibna f’għajn ħuk u ma tarax it-travu li għandek f’għajnek stess. Għalhekk Ġesù qed jgħidilna “Tiġġudikawx, biex ma tkunux iġġudikati”.

Biex nifhmu dal-kliem ta’ Ġesù, hu importanti li nagħmlu d-distinzjoni li hu dejjem għamel – imma ssib diversi nies li jgħidu li lanqas tista’ tagħmilha – bejn il-persuna u l-azzjoni, dak li tagħmel il-persuna… Read more »
