The Gospel of the day: 26th June

Readings of the day

First Reading: Gen 18, 1-15
Psalm: Lk 1, 46-47.48-49. 50 & 53.54-55

Gospel: Mt 8, 5-17

In those days, Jesus entered Capernaum, and a centurion came to him, appealing to him and saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, in terrible distress.” And he said to him, “I will come and cure him.” The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, “Go,’ and he goes, and to another, “Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, “Do this,’ and the slave does it.” When Jesus heard him, he was amazed and said to those who followed him, “Truly I tell you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and will eat with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, while the heirs of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you according to your faith.” And the servant was healed in that hour. When Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever; he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him. That evening they brought to him many who were possessed with demons; and he cast out the spirits with a word, and cured all who were sick. This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah, “He took our infirmities and bore our diseases.”  Read more »

Say nothing to anyone – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Qis li ma tgħid lil ħadd”. Tidher stramba din li qal Ġesù lil-lebbruż. Kien għadu nieżel minn fuq il-mutanja b’folol kbar ta’ nies, wara d-diskors tal-muntanja, u meta fejjaq lil-lebbruż, l-ewwel ħaġa li qallu kienet: “qis li ma tgħid lil ħadd”. Din mhix l-unika darba li Ġesù jgħid hekk fl-Evanġelju, lil min ifejjaq jgħidlu biex ma jgħid lil ħadd.

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

L-Evanġelju li ntagħżel għas-solennità tat-twelid ta’ Ġwanni, jinsisti ħafna dwar ismu. Kif għedna fil-bidu, Ġwanni jfisser ‘Alla jħenn, Alla ħanin, Joħanan’. Hu l-mument fejn iseħħu l-wegħdiet ta’ Alla. Missieru, li quddiem id-dubju għal dak li kien qed iwiegħdu l-anġlu, tbikkem u tilef il-vuċi, ikollu din l-esperjenza straordinarja li lsienu jinħall u jibda jitkellem u jfaħħar lil Alla (1 Lq:64).

“Tibżax, Żakkarija, għax it-talba tiegħek instemgħet: martek Eliżabetta se tagħtik iben, u inti ssemmih Ġwanni” (Lq 1:13). F’dan il-vers tal-Evanġelju ta’ San Luqa nsibu tliet protagonisti, li huma l-qofol ta’ din is-solennità li bdejna niċċelebraw illejla, u li nkomplu niċċelebrawha għada l-24 ta’ Ġunju. Huma tliet protagonisti bi tliet ismijiet b’sinjifikant profond: Zakkarija, Eliżabetta u Ġwanni.

Pope at Audience: Evangelization requires us to follow unexpected paths

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

After the long itinerary dedicated to prayer, today we begin a new cycle of catechesis. I hope that with this itinerary of prayer we have succeeded in praying a little better, praying a little more. Today I would like to reflect on some themes proposed by the Apostle Paul in his Letter to the Galatians… Read more »
