The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Fir-rakkont li jagħtina San Mattew ta’ dan il-mument meta Ġesù jiltaqa’ ma sħabu fuq il-baħar, jidħol ukoll il-persunaġġ ta’ Pietru. Pietru donnu jagħmel sfida ħelwa lil Ġesù: “Jekk hu int, ordnali niġi ħdejk fuq l-ilma”, “Ejja” (Mt 14:28-29).

Dik il-kelma hi kelma li Pietru semagħha: “Ejja warajja”. Din id-darba Ġesù jilqa’ l-isfida ħelwa ta’ Pietru u jagħtih l-istess qawwa tiegħu: li jimxi fuq l-ilma… Read more »

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Is-setgħani għamel miegħi ħwejjeġ kbar; qaddis hu l-isem tiegħu.” (Lq 1:49) Hekk kantajna fis-salm responsorjali, f’din il-festa ta’ Sidtna Marija tal-Anġli, li tfakkarna fil-Porziuncola, ġewwa Assisi, fl-inizjattiva feliċi ta’ San Franġisk, li joffri lil ħutu u lilna l-bieb tal-ħniena. Bieb miftuħ fuq il-ħniena ta’ Alla. Din hija waħda mill-festi l-kbar tal-ħniena ta’ Alla. Kull min f’dan il-jum, jew dawn il-jiem iżur il-parroċċa tiegħu, jaqla’ l-maħfra tat-tpattija kollha ta’ dnubietu… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 3rd August

Readings of the day

First Reading: Num 12, 1-13
Psalm: 50 (51), 3-4.5-6a.6bc-7.12-13

Gospel: Mt 14, 22-36

After he had fed the people, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray.

When evening came, he was there alone, but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.”

Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshipped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. After the people of that place recognised him, they sent word throughout the region and brought all who were sick to him, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed… Read more »

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Agħtuhom intom x’jieklu”. Dan kien il-kliem li Ġesù qal lid-dixxipli, u nista’ nimmaġina x’għadda minn moħħhom. Dawn id-dixxipli kienu raw dik il-folla ta’ nies, kien qed isir il-ħin, kien post imwarrab, u allura lil Ġesù qalulu: ta’ min jitilqu u jmorru fl-irħula ħa jixtru x’jieklu. Kienu preokkkupati meta raw dik il-folla ta’ nies. U Ġesù ħareġ b’waħda tajba; qalilhom: “Ma għandhomx għalfejn imorru; agħtuhom intom x’jieklu”… Read more »

Psalm: 80 (81), 12-13.14-15.16-17

Gospel: Mt 14, 13-21

Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said to them, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” They replied, “We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish.” And he said, “Bring them here to me.”

Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass… Read more »

Help us find what is long-term – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Church of St Joseph the Worker, Xemxija

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Nisimgħu ta’ spiss fi żmienna min jgħid: kemm sirna materjalisti! Li jfisser, speċjalment fil-pajjiżi għonja, li ħafna min-nies ifittxu li dejjem ikollhom, li jakkwistaw aktar; qatt mhuma kuntenti b’li għandhom, imma dejjem ifittxu li jkollhom xi ħaġa oħra.

X’qed tfittex il-folla

Aħna ngħidu “sirna materjalisti”, imma jekk nagħtu ħarsa lura nindunaw, bħalma rajna fl-Evanġelju llum skont San Ġwann, li din kienet ukoll it-tendenza fi żmien Ġesù… Read more »
