The Gospel of the day: 2nd November

Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls)
Readings of the day

First Reading: Job 19:1.23-27a
Psalm: 26
Second Reading: Rom 19:1.23-27a

Gospel: Jn 6:37-40

In those days Jesus told the crowd: “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and anyone who comes to me I will never drive away; for I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day.”  Read more »

The path to holiness: seeking God’s face – The Archbishop

Mass on All Saints' Day and the candidature of two seminarians

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Dan hu n-nisel ta’ dawk li jfittxu ’l wiċċek, Mulej” (S 23:6). Li tfittex il-wiċċ tal-Mulej huwa proċess għax il-Mulej ma jidhirx imma fil-ħniena tiegħu juri lilu nnifsu u juri lilu nnifsu fil-misteru kbir tal-imħabba.

Jekk inti tħobb ’il ħuk u ’l oħtok li tara, tista’ tħobb lil Alla li ma tarax; imma jekk ma tħobbx lil ħuk u ’l oħtok li tara, kif tista’ tħobb lil Alla li ma tarax? … Read more »

Saints show us what is beautiful, true, meaningful in life – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the feast of All Saints' Day

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Aħna u nagħmlu llum is-solennità tal-qaddisin kollha, niftakru f’tant qaddisin li għexu f’epoki differenti, u ta’ karattri differenti, li ġew dikjarati qaddisin mill-Knisja. Lil dawn inqimuhom, nitolbu l-interċessjoni tagħhom, nammirawhom għal ħafna kwalitajiet sbieħ fil-ħajja tagħhom, imma wkoll naraw fihom ispirazzjoni importanti u sabiħa għall-ħajja tagħna. Xi wħud minnhom huma wkoll protetturi tal-parroċċi u tal-lokalitajiet tagħna.

Imma din il-festa, għax hi l-festa tal-qaddisin kollha, mhix biss il-festa ta’ dawn li huma dikjarati qaddisin mill-Knisja… Read more »

Pope on All Saints: Beatitudes show path to holiness and happiness

  The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

Today we celebrate All Saints, and in the Liturgy the “programmatic” message of Jesus resounds: namely, the Beatitudes (cf. Mt 5:1-12a). They show us the path that leads to the Kingdom of God and to happiness: the path of humility, compassion, meekness, justice and peace. To be a saint is to walk on this road… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: May our love for God and neighbour resound in us

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

In today’s liturgy, the Gospel presents a scribe who approaches Jesus and asks him: “Which commandment is the first of all?” (Mk 12:28). Jesus responds by citing Scripture and confirms that the first commandment is to love God; from this one then derives the second, as a natural consequence: to love one’s neighbour as oneself (cf… Read more »

Let love guide us in our lives – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Id-diskussjoni dwar liema hu l-ewwel fost il-kmandamenti kienet, fi żmien Ġesù, diskussjoni li kienu jagħmlu l-kittieba u l-għorrief tal-Liġi. Għax fil-fatt kien hemm ħafna kmandamenti, regolamenti u liġijiet li kellu l-poplu Lhudi, u kultant kienu jiddiskutu liema jiġi l-ewwel.

Din il-mistoqsija li għamlu lil Ġesù ma ġabitx risposta, min-naħa ta’ Ġesù, ta’ ħafna kliem, imma mar mill-ewwel fil-qalba, dak li hu l-aktar importanti… Read more »

Gospel: Mt 5:1-12a

In those days: When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.  Read more »
