Bishop Annetto Depasquale: a man of many virtues – The Archbishop

  The Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

Il-messaġġ tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Il-Knisja, meta trid tapprezza l-umanità ta’ xi ħadd minn uliedha, tħares lejn l-erba’ virtujiet li aħna nsejħulhom il-virtujiet kardinali – m’għandhomx x’jaqsmu mat-ton tal-ilbies jew mat-titli – imma għaliex huma, biex ngħidu hekk, iċ-ċappetti, il-cardines li fuqhom jistrieħ l-bieb tal-ħajja: il-prudenza, it-temperanza, il-qawwa u l-ġustizzja.

Meta tgħid ‘prudenza’ u tgħid ‘Dun Annett’ tista’ tagħmel an equivalence relationship, mhux hekk? … Read more »

Saint Andrew, Apostle – Feast
Readings of the day

First Reading: Rom 10: 9-18
Psalm: 18: 2-5

Gospel: Mt 4: 18-22

In those days, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.”

Immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him.  Read more »

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“…Int għid kelma biss u l-qaddej tiegħi jfiq”. Din hi t-talba li għamel iċ-ċenturjun lil Ġesù, meta mar isibu, jitolbu jfejjaq lill-qaddej tiegħu li kien batut ħafna. Hawn għandna ġrajja tassew sabiħa li tgħidilna ħafna affarijiet sbieħ għal ħajjitna. Nixtieq li nħarsu kemm lejn iċ-ċenturjun, kif ukoll lejn Ġesù, u naraw x’jgħallmuna permezz ta’ din il-ġrajja.

Iċ-ċenturjun kien bniedem li kellu responsabbiltà kbira… Read more »

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

L-ewwel impressjoni li tieħu meta tisma’ dan id-diskors ta’ Ġesù hu li qed jgħid kliem li jista’ joħloq ansjetà, ibeżża’, forsi wkoll joħloq paniku. Ġesù jsemmi, fost l-oħrajn, taqlib fin-natura, fosthom il-ħsejjes tal-baħar u tal-imwieġ. F’maltempata qawwija dawn ikunu ħsejjes tal-biża’, speċjalment jekk tinżerta f’nofs ta’ baħar. Nafu li anke maltempata qawwija tax-xita, bħalma kellna nhar il-Ħamis li għadda, toħloq inkonvenjent kbir u forsi wkoll ansjetà… Read more »

Mass on the first Sunday of Advent

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Min jaf kemm-il darba nissilna t-talba għażiża: ‘O Marija, li dħalt fid-dinja mingħajr tebgħa, aqlgħalna l-grazzja li noħorġu minna mingħajr ħtija’. Ġesù fl-Evanġelju llum jitkellem fuq din l-aħħar parti tat-talba għażiża li ngħidu lill-Madonna Kunċizzjoni Immakulata: ‘Aqlgħalna l-grazzja li noħorġu minn din id-dinja mingħajr ħtija’. Hi fit-tnissil Immakulat tagħha, daħlet fid-dinja mingħajr tebgħa tad-dnub. Il-Mulej ħares lejha b’ħarsa ta’ ħniena, ta’ mħabba speċjali… Read more »

Readings of the day

First Reading: Is 2, 1-5
Psalm: 121 (122), 1-2.3-4a. 4b-5.6-7.8-9

Gospel: Mt 8, 5-11

In those days, Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, appealing to him and saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, in terrible distress.” And he said to him, “I will come and cure him.” The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, “Go,’ and he goes, and to another, “Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, “Do this,’ and the slave does it.”

When Jesus heard him, he was amazed and said to those who followed him, “Truly I tell you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and will eat with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,  Read more »
