Pope Francis: With faith, prayer and penance we overcome evil

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

Last Wednesday, with the penitential rite of the ashes, we began our Lenten journey. Today, the first Sunday of this liturgical season, the Word of God shows us the path to living fruitfully the forty days that lead to the annual celebration of Easter. It is the way Jesus trod, which the Gospel, with Mark’s essential style, summarises by saying that before He began His preaching, He withdrew into the desert for forty days, where He was tempted by Satan (see 1:12-15)… Read more »

A fast that pleases God – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Fi żmien Ġesù, diversi nies kellhom id-drawwa li jsumu, bħalma kienu jagħmlu d-dixxipli ta’ Ġwanni u l-Fariżej, kif smajna fl-Evanġelju. Kienu, pereżempju, isumu darbtejn fil-ġimgħa. Mhux għax kellhom obbligu li kull darba jsumu, imma għax kienu jarawha bħala ħaġa xierqa. Xi wħud minnhom kienu wkoll jiftaħru biha. Niftakru Ġesù jgħid il-parabbola tal-Fariżew u l-pubblikan fit-tempju, u l-Fariżew meta kien qed jagħmel it-talba tiegħu lil Alla, jiftaħar, u fost l-oħrajn jgħidlu: “jiena nsum darbtejn fil-ġimgħa” (Lq 18:12)… Read more »

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Jien u nitlob fuq il-ħsieb li xtaqt naqsam magħkom illum, waqt li qegħdin nitolbu b’suffraġju  ta’ ħuna Monsinjur Ġwann Azzopardi, u nitolbu wkoll għal ruħu imma wkoll insellmu il-ħidma u l-patrimonju li ħallielna, laqatni ħafna dan il-vers mill-Profeta Iżaija, li, il-Knisja tissuġġerixxi bħal-lum, is-Sibt ta’ wara l-Erbgħa tal-Irmied: ‘’Isejħulek bennej tas-swar imġarrfa’’.

Għaliex nimmaġina, li l-patrimonju storiku, dokumentali, mużikali, arkitettoniku, u mittoniku li ġie afdat għall-kura ta’ Dun Ġwann, mill-mibki Monsinjur Coleiro fl-1967, bħala kollaboratur tal-Mużew tal-Katidral li kien għadu fil-bidu tiegħu… Read more »
