In those days, Jesus’ disciples said, “Yes, now you are speaking plainly, not in any figure of speech! Now we know that you know all things, and do not need to have anyone question you; by this we believe that you came from God.” Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each one to his home, and you will leave me alone… Read more »

He fills us with hope – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Il-ġrajja tat-Tlugħ fis-Sema tal-Mulej hi ġrajja unika li aħna niċċelebrawha bil-ferħ, għax tfisser ħafna għalina lkoll.

Missjoni kbira

Jekk immorru lura għal dakinhar, kif smajna fl-Evanġelju u wkoll kif rakkontat fl-Atti tal-Appostli, ninnutaw li qabel ma tela’ s-sema, lill-appostli Ġesù tahom missjoni kbira ħafna. Hawn jgħid: “Morru fid-dinja kollha…”; mela mhux biex imorru f’xi belt, jew raħal, jew pajjiż, imma fid-dinja kollha… Read more »

We are one with Jesus – The Archbishop

Mass on the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord

The Chapel of Our Lady of Miracles, Ħal Lija

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Il-qari tal-lum jitkellem fuq it-tlugħ tal-Mulej imma ma jitkellimx fuq it-tluq tiegħu. It-tlugħ tal-Mulej hija l-glorja ta’ Kristu Rxoxt. Fir-rakkont li għandna mill-kitbiet tal-Evanġelista San Luqa, nifhmu li biex ikun hemm xhieda tal-qawmien tiegħu mill-imwiet, għal 40 jum sħaħ il-Mulej deher lid-dixxipli tiegħu jqawwihom fil-fidi li kienet dgħajfa u jagħmel minnhom xhieda tal-qawmien tiegħu mill-imwiet u tal-glorja tiegħu. Imma fl-istess ħin qed jippreparahom biex ikunu huma li jkomplu l-missjoni tiegħu fuq l-art… Read more »

The Sunday Gospel: 16th May

Seventh Sunday of Easter
The Ascension of the Lord – Solemnity

First Reading: Acts 1, 1-11
Psalm: 46(47), 2-3,6-7,8-9
Second Reading: Eph 4, 1-13

Gospel: Mk 16, 15-20

In those days, Jesus said to the Eleven, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The one who believes and is baptised will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and proclaimed the good news everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it.  Read more »

“Pray that your love for Jesus never runs dry” – The Archbishop to the new deacons

The diaconal ordination of Sean Abela and Jean Claude Attard

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces, Ħaż-Żabbar

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Il-Missier iħobbkom” (Ġw 16:27). Kemm huma kliem sbieħ dawn ta’ Ġesù li għadna kemm smajna mill-kapitlu 16 tal-Evanġelju ta’ San Ġwann. “Il-Missier stess iħobbkom”. Ġesù jinsisti  li “Il-Missier stess iħobbkom”. Jekk niftakru f’din il-kelma ta’ Ġesù għandna biex inkomplu l-vjaġġ bl-umiltà u bil-kuraġġ. Anke intom, għeżież, li intom imsejħin għad-djakonat llum, ftakruha dejjem din il-kelma għażiża ta’ Ġesù għaliex biex ikun jista’ jgħidilna li “ma qisx tiegħu dak li kien daqs Alla […] imma tneżża’ minn kollox, sar bniedem, obda, obda sal-mewt, sal-mewt tas-salib” (Fil 2:8.9), jagħti xhieda tagħha u konferma tagħha: “Il-Missier stess iħobbkom”… Read more »

Readings of the day

First Reading: Acts 18, 23-28
Psalm: 46 (47), 2-3.8-9.10

Gospel: Jn 16, 23b-28

In those days, Jesus told his disciples: “Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. I have said these things to you in figures of speech… Read more »

Matthias: gift of God – L-Isqof Galea-Curmi

Mass on the feast of St Matthias

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

San Mattija ma kienx wieħed mill-ewwel tnax li għażel Ġesù. Daħal aktar tard, bħala sostitut ta’ Ġuda, meta Ġuda kien ittradixxa lil Ġesù u temm ħajtu, imbagħad saret l-għażla wara li Ġesù tela’ s-sema. Ingħażel Mattija li kien diġà wieħed mit-72 dixxiplu ta’ Ġesù, imma hu fl-Atti tal-Appostli, fil-ġrajja tal-għażla, li jissemma għall-ewwel darba. Riedu li jagħżlu ieħor biex ikunu tnax – għax mingħajr Ġuda kienu ħdax – li hu n-numru li jaqbel mat-tnax-il tribù ta’ Iżrael… Read more »
