He chose us – Bishop Galea-Curmi

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Għada s-Sibt hi ġurnata sabiħa ħafna għall-Knisja f’Malta għax l-Arċisqof se jordna erba’ saċerdoti ġodda. Fid-djoċesi ta’ Għawdex, ftit ġranet ilu, l-Isqof ta’ Għawdex ordna żewġ saċerdoti ġodda. Hi sabiħa għax hi ċ-ċelebrazzjoni tas-sejħa li għamel il-Mulej, u tat-tweġiba ġeneruża ta’ dawn iż-żgħażagħ. Tfakkarna ħafna f’dal-kliem li smajna lil Ġesù jgħid fl-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann: “Mhux intom għażiltu lili, imma jien għażilt lilkom, u ħtartkom biex tmorru tagħmlu l-frott, u l-frott tagħkom jibqa’.” Hi din l-għażla li għamel il-Mulej, u t-tweġiba ta’ dawn iż-żgħażagħ, biex il-Mulej jagħtihom din il-missjoni li jagħmlu frott li jibqa’… Read more »

Psalm: 99 (100), 1-2.3.5

Gospel: Jn 15, 18-21

In those days, Jesus told his disciples: “If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world—therefore the world hates you.

Remember the word that I said to you, “Servants are not greater than their master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me… Read more »

Strengthening well-being not substance use

The Secretariat for Catholic Education (SfCE) and the Church Schools’ Association (CSA) have issued a position paper giving feedback to the White Paper “Towards the Strengthening of the Legal Framework on the Responsible Use of Cannabis”. This feedback will now be presented to the Government as part of the consultation process currently underway.

As educators working on a daily basis with thousands of children and youths, the Secretariat for Catholic Education and the Church Schools’ Association feel the responsibility to voice strong reservations about the dangerous path the proposals listed in the White Paper appear to be taking… Read more »

Nirringrazzjaw flimkien lil Alla għad-don tas-saċerdozju li qed jagħti lil Roderick, Jean Claude, Joshua u Mark, u li permezz tagħhom qed jagħti lill-Knisja, speċjalment lill-Knisja f’Malta. Pope at Audience: Contemplative prayer ‘a guide along path of love’

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

We continue the catechesis on prayer and in this catechesis, I would like to reflect on contemplative prayer.

The contemplative dimension of the human being – which is not yet contemplative prayer – is a bit like the “salt” of life: it gives flavour, it seasons our day. We can contemplate by gazing at the sun that rises in the morning, or at the trees that deck themselves out in spring green; we can contemplate by listening to music or to the sounds of the birds, reading a book, gazing at a work of art or at that masterpiece that is the human face… Carlo Maria Martini, when he was sent to be the Bishop of Milan, entitled his first Pastoral Letter The contemplative dimension of life: the truth is that those who live in a large city, where everything – we can say – is artificial and where everything is functional, risk losing the capacity to contemplate… Read more »
