Jesus’ invitation to ‘come and see’: message by the Pope for the 55th World Communications Day

  The Vatican

Journalists reporting outside the Vatican (Vatican News)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The invitation to “come and see”, which was part of those first moving encounters of Jesus with the disciples, is also the method for all authentic human communication. In order to tell the truth of life that becomes history (cf. Message for the 54th World Communications Day, 24 January 2020), it is necessary to move beyond the complacent attitude that we “already know” certain things… Read more »

Publius protector of human life – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass for the memorial of St Publius

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Publiju kien il-‘Protos’, bil-Grieg jiġifieri l-ewwel, il-prinċep ta’ Malta, il-mexxej. F’dan ir-rakkont mill-Atti tal-Appostli, ir-rakkont tan-nawfraġju ta’ Pawlu u sħabu hawnhekk f’Malta, Publiju joħroġ tassew b’mod sabiħ u pożittiv.

Il-ktieb tal-Atti tal-Appostli jgħid li Publiju: “laqagħna u bil-qalb kollha żammna għandu”. Bħalma għamlu wkoll il-Maltin li: “ġiebu ruħhom magħna bi ħlewwa liema bħalha” u “laqgħuna”. Qalb it-tbatija kbira tan-nawfraġju – din is-sitwazzjoni verament kerha – joħroġ dan is-sabiħ, it-tajjeb enfasizzat mill-ktieb tal-Atti tal-Appostli fuq Publiju u l-Maltin… Read more »

Pope deplores Iraq bomb attacks and prays for the victims

Site of a suicide attack in a central market in Baghdad

Pope Francis on Thursday condemned a twin bomb attack in a Baghdad market, and described the attacks as “a senseless act of brutality.”

At least 32 people were killed in the suicide bombings and over 100 others wounded.

In a telegram, sent on his behalf by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, the Pope said he is praying “for the deceased victims and their families, for the injured and for the emergency personnel in attendance.”

He went on to say he hopes that Iraq will continue to work to overcome violence with “fraternity, solidarity and peace,” and he invoked the Lord’s blessing upon the nation and its people… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 22nd January

Readings of the day

First Reading: Acts 28,1-10
Psalm: 15, 1-2.5. 7-8. 11

Gospel: Mt 25, 31-40

In those days, Jesus told his diciples: “When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left.

Then the King will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’

The courage in being a witness for Jesus Christ – The Archbishop

Mass for the memorial of St Agnes

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Fit-tielet kapitlu ta’ San Mark għandna din ix-xena straordinarja ta’ folol kbar li jippruvaw jersqu lejn Ġesù. L-evanġelista San Mark jgħid li kienu jeħdulu l-morda u “dawk kollha li kellhom xi mard kienu jrossu fuqu biex imissuh” (Mk 3:10).

In-nies kienu insistenti li jmissu lil Ġesù. San Mark ma jagħtiniex teoloġija kbira tal-Iben ta’ Alla li sar bniedem imma kemm-il darba jagħtina xeni fejn in-nies jew iridu jmissu lil Ġesù jew Ġesù stess imidd idu biex imiss u jfejjaq lil xi ħadd… Read more »
