Saints Simon and Jude, apostles – Feast
Readings of the day

First Reading: Eph 2, 19-22
Psalm: 18, 2-5

Gospel: Lk 6, 12-19

Now during those days he went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Simon, who was called the Zealot, and Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them.  Read more »

Being like mustard seeds and yeast – The Archbishop

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Il-loġika ta’ Ġesù hija ftit differenti minn tagħna l-bnedmin. Aħna ħafna drabi, biex nimpressjonaw, naħsbu f’affarijiet kbar li jolqtu mill-ewwel l-għajn, li forsi jagħmlu ħafna ħoss.

Iż-żewġ tixbihat li juża’ Ġesù fl-Evanġelju tal-lum mill-kapitlu 13 tal-Evanġelju ta’ San Luqa, huma tixbihat ta’ affarijiet ċkejknin: iż-żerriegħa tal-mustarda ċkejkna, ċkejkna li tikber biż-żmien u ssir arbuxell. It-tradizzjoni tagħna tgħid siġra imma hija propju arbuxell kbir li tant ikun b’saħħtu li l-għasafar jistrieħu fuqu u anke jagħmlu xi bejta fiha… Read more »

Gospel: Lk 13, 18-21

Jesus said, “What is the Kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that a person took and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush and ‘the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches.’”

Again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God? … Read more »

Living truly free – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

“In-nies ilkoll ferħu”. Hekk naqraw fl-Evanġelju tal-lum meta dawn in-nies raw il-miraklu li għamel Ġesù li lill-mara li kienet ilha 18-il sena sħaħ marida hu jagħtiha s-saħħa mill-ġdid. In-nies setgħu jaraw is-sinjal tal-qawwa ta’ Alla li tfejjaq, li tagħti s-saħħa mill-ġdid.

Imma l-Evanġelju jurina kif kien hemm ukoll oħrajn, nies oħra. Ma’ dawn in-nies li ferħu, li kienu jafu japprezzaw, li kellhom qalbhom miftuħa għal Alla, kien hemm ukoll nies oħra li kienu kontra Ġesù… Read more »
