Our conversion started with that of St Paul – The Archbishop

Mass on the Conversion of St Paul

The Cathedral of St Paul, Mdina

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles J. Scicluna

Fl-esperjenza li jgħaddi minnha Pawlu fit-triq ta’ Damasku, il-Mulej Ġesù juri li huwa ħaġa waħda mal-komunità tal-fidi, mal-Knisja. Meta jkellmu jgħidlu: “Għaliex qiegħed tippersegwitani?” “Min int, Mulej?” jistaqsi Sawl. “Jiena Ġesù li qiegħed tippersegwita” (Atti 22:7-8).

Min jaf kemm-il darba rrifletta fuqha din l-espressjoni l-Appostlu Missierna. Nafu li frott l-ispirazzjoni tal-ispirtu u t-talb tiegħu, hu elabora, fisser li aħna l-ġisem ta’ Ġesù, il-Knisja hija l-ġisem ta’ Ġesù u li fiha, il-ġisem ta’ Ġesù hu r-ras… Read more »

From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen… Read more »

The Pro-Cathedral of St Paul, Valletta

Message by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna

“After we had reached safety we learned that the island was called Malta. The natives showed us unusual kindness” (Acts 28:1-2). In this week of prayer for Christian unity in this year of our Lord 2020, we Christians have been invited to meditate, pray and reflect on verse 2, chapter 28 of the Acts of the Apostles. We Maltese are called barbaroi by Luke in the Acts of the Apostles and scholars tell us the reason we are called barbaroi, which does not necessarily translate as barbarians, is the fact we were neither Latins nor we did not speak Greek… Read more »

Let’s start not from the very beginning, from the last two entries, in this very beautiful church – St Sebastian and St Jean-Baptiste de La Salle. It is most appropriate to have the image of Jean-Baptiste de la Salle, a French educational reformer, and the founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian who contributed so much to the formation of men for our Dockyard, included among the saints depicted in this church, founded by the French knights, and therefore an integral part of the French heritage of these islands… Read more »
