8,500 migrants arrive in Italy

  • Some 8,500 asylum seekers rescued in the southern Mediterranean over the last two days arrived in Italian ports on Tuesday.

    Around 5,000 of those people were rescued off the coast of Libya on Monday. The asylum seekers were aboard 14 ships, six of which have already docked, or are about to enter, ports in Sicily and Calabria.

Cardinal Turkson: Marijuana debate ignores ethical questions

  • The Vatican’s top personality on social justice issues has voiced his concern for the increased demand for drugs, including recreational marijuana, saying debate on the plant’s usage doesn’t take ethical concerns into account.
