‘PACEM IN TERRIS’ IS MODEL FOR PREACHING, TEACHING, ARCHBISHOP SAYS

Pope John XXIII

As the Catholic Church increases its new evangelization efforts and works for justice and peace in the world, it would be wise to imitate the positive, prophetic approach taken by Blessed John XXIII in his encyclical “Pacem in Terris,” a French archbishop said. Archbishop Roland Minnerath of Dijon addressed the opening session April 27 of a meeting of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, which was holding the second of three planned meetings preparing to mark the 50th anniversary next year of “Pacem in Terris,” the encyclical “on establishing peace in truth, justice, charity and liberty.”

Mary Ann Glendon, a professor of law at Harvard University and president of the academy, told members their study and discussions would be focused on “the role of religion in the quest for a ‘tranquility of order’ in our increasingly complex and conflict-ridden world.” Archbishop Minnerath said the encyclical had an unusually positive and popular reception around the world, first of all because it was the first encyclical addressed to “all men of good will.” In addition, he said, it tapped into people’s yearning for peace at the height of the Cold War, the emerging independence of former colonies in Africa and Asia, and widespread economic growth, he said… Read more »

Fourth Sunday of Easter

World Day of Prayer for Vocations

John 10,11-18

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. The hired man, since he is not the shepherd and the sheep do not belong to him, abandons the sheep as soon as he sees a wolf coming, and runs away, and then the wolf attacks and scatters the sheep; he runs away because he is only a hired man and has no concern for the sheep… Read more »

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

Il-Ħadd 29 ta’ April, il-Knisja tiċċelebra Jum il-Vokazzjonijiet. Fil-messaġġ tiegħu fl-okkażjoni tad-49 Jum Dinji ta’ Talb għall-Vokazzjonijiet, il-Papa Benedittu XVI ħeġġeġ mill-qalb lil dawk kollha responsabbli fil-Knisja u fil‑qasam tal‑edukazzjoni taż‑żgħażagħ sabiex jagħtu attenzjoni speċjali lil dawk il‑membri tal‑komunitajiet parrokkjali, assoċjazzjonijiet u movimenti ekkleżjali li jħossu fihom sejħa għas‑saċerdozju jew għal konsagrazzjoni speċjali. Il-Papa qal li “huwa importanti għall‑Knisja li toħloq dawk il‑kundizzjonijiet li jippermettu liż‑żgħażagħ jgħidu ‘iva’ bi tweġiba ġeneruża għas‑sejħa t’Alla kollha mħabba”… Read more »
