PLANS FOR ACTIVITIES RELATED TO POPE’S MEETING WITH YOUTHS UNVEILED

On Tuesday, 2nd March, 2010, further details were given about the Pope’s meeting with youths at the Valletta Waterfront to be held on Sunday 18th April. This activitity will include a concert by Malta’s top Christian bands, and a guest appearance by the popular band Winter Moods. World Youth Day Song Contest


The 2010 WYD Song Contest was held on Saturday, 27th February, 2010 at the Salesian Oratory in Sliema with the participation of seven Christian Bands, namely: Altaer, Footprints, His Project, Rise, StageCraft, The Cross and The Prophecy.  The turnout for this Contest was fantastic with the Salesian Theatre at maximum capacity and the crowd cheering throughout the band’s peformances… Read more »

SCHEMES IN PREPARATION OF POPE’S VISIT

The Theological Commission of the Church in Malta has just published a book with extracts from Pope Benedict XVI’s teachings. Fr Hector Scerri, the President of the Theological Commission, said that this book can help Christians prepare themselves for Easter and for the Pope’s visit to Malta. MUSLIMS, CATHOLICS DISCREDIT RELIGION-INSPIRED VIOLENCE

Muslim and Catholic representatives have joined their voices in rejecting the manipulation of religion to justify political interests, violence or discrimination.

A historic declaration signed by the president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and a Sunni leader from the Al-Azhar university marked the conclusion of an annual meeting held last week in Cairo. ARCHBISHOP VISITS GĦAXAQ PRIMARY SCHOOL

On Tuesday, 2nd March, 2010, Archbishop Paul Cremona OP visited Għaxaq Primary School as part of his Pastoral Visit in this locality. Archbishop Cremona met teachers, students and parents who were present during the visit. YOUTHS CROSS AND ICON ARRIVE IN PAOLA

On Sunday, 28th February, 2010, ŻAK groups from Tarxien and Paola grouped up with other youths to organize an activity in Paola in preparation for Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Malta.

SPANISH BISHOPS: ABORTION LAW A STEP BACKWARD

The Spanish bishops are denouncing the recent liberalization of abortion laws in the country as a “serious step backward in the protection of the right to life.”

Auxiliary Bishop Juan Antonio Martínez Camino of Madrid, who is a spokesman for Spain’s episcopal conference, said Thursday at a press conference that the law is also “a greater abandonment of expectant mothers as well as, in the last analysis, a very serious destruction of the common good.” Bishop Martínez addressed the press at the end of a meeting of the permanent commission of the bishops’ conference, which took place the day after the Senate in Spain voted to allow abortion without restrictions up to 14 weeks… Read more »

ARCHBISHOP’S MEETING WITH DOCTORS

On Sunday 28th February, 2010, Archbishop Paul Cremona OP presided over a meeting for doctors and celebrated Mass. This event was organized by the Sacretariat for the Laity, at the Seminary in tal-Virtu’. During the meeting, time was devoted towards a discussion on the medical profession and on how the Catholic faith can be of guidance in everyday choices.

On Saturday 27th February, 2010, Archbishop Paul Cremona OP celebrated Mass at Attard  Parish on the occassion of ‘Faculty Day’. The occassion was organized by the Faculty of Theology.
