TARXIEN PASTORAL VISIT OPENING MASS

On Sunday 17th January, 2010, Archbishop Paul Cremona OP celebrated Mass at Tarxien Parish, for the official opening of the Pastoral visit. In his homily, the Archbishop spoke about the meaning behind his pastoral visit and explained that, as the word implies, these are visits by the shepherd who takes care of his flock and looks after their well being. The Archbishop emphasized on the importance of ‘unity’, which he said, is an essential element for one to have a strong community which can endure all evils… Read more »

PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY

Fl-okkażjoni tal-ġimgħa ta’ Talb għall-Għaqda fost l-Insara

Kull sena, bejn it-18 ta’ Jannar u l-25 ta’ Jannar, Festa tal-Konverżjoni tal-Appostlu tal-ġnus, San Pawl, issir ġimgħa ta’ talb intensiv mill-insara biex jingħelbu l-firdiet bejn il-Knejjes u d-denominazzjonijiet insara differenti. Sfortunatament, tul il-medda tas-sekli, il-Knisja għaddiet minn bosta firdiet. Biżżejjed insemmu l-firda tal-Ortodossi fis-Seklu ħdax, u aktar tard, il-firda tal-Protestanti, fis-Seklu Sittax… Read more »

THE POPE ON THE 96th WORLD DAY OF MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES

Pope Benedict XVI

Theme: Minor migrants and refugees

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The celebration of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees once again gives me the opportunity to express the Church’s constant concern for those who, in different ways, experience a life of emigration. This is a phenomenon which, as I wrote in the Encyclical Caritas in Veritate, upsets us due to the number of people involved and the social, economic, political, cultural and religious problems it raises on account of the dramatic challenges it poses to both national and international communities… Read more »

A WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY

18 – 25 ta’ Jannar 2010

F’dawn l-aħħar mitt sena r-rikonċiljazzjoni bejn l-lnsara ħadet forom differenti. Ħafna enerġija ġiet indirizzata lejn riċerka teoloġika li waslet għal xi ftehim dottrinali. Il-koperazzjoni prattika fis-soċjal bejn il-knejjes tat bidu għal inizjattivi li taw il-frott tagħhom, fosthom fil-missjonijiet. Għalhekk nistgħu ngħidu li l-World Mission Conference ta’ Edinburgh fl-1910 kienet il-bidu tal-Moviment Ekumeniku… Read more »

THE EUCHARIST, CHARITY AND ALMSGIVING

The author of the Book of Kings (2, 4:42-44) narrates the story about one of Elisha’s servants who doubts that 20 loaves of barley is enough to feed 100 people. Elisha, however, trusts the promise of the Lord and overrules his servant. The miracle vindicates Elisha’s trust. The numbers fed are modest in comparison with the feeding of the 5,000 in the Gospel of John! … Read more »
