ECUMENISM: 2-6 JUNE, BIRTH OF ECUMENICAL MOVEMENT CELEBRATED IN EDINBURGH

In Edinburgh, the Christian Churches of the world will meet this year from 2nd to 6th June to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the World Missionary Conference that took place in 1910 and is now regarded as the official birthday of the modern ecumenical movement.

CARITAS MALTA HAITI FUND REACHES €181,000

Collections initiated by Caritas Malta in aid of the earthquake victims and their families in Haiti have reached €181,000.  Caritas Malta said this confirms that the people of Malta and Gozo rose to the occasion to help people in need. Caritas Malta added that this amount does not include all collections made in parishes.

The collection is being made with the approval of  the Archbishop of Malta, Mgr Paul Cremona OP and the Bishop of Gozo, Mgr Mario Grech, who have appealed for people’s generosity to help those who are suffering as a result of the devastating earthquake in Haiti… Read more »

CARITAS EUROPE: THIRTEEN “MISSIONS” TO FIGHT POVERTY

Poverty

“The best prevention against poverty is education”. This is one of the principles expressed on the website www.zeropoverty.org which supports the Caritas Europe’s campaign against poverty and social exclusion.

Such campaign (presented yesterday in the premises of the European Parliament, in Brussels) has officially started: on the website, people may subscribe to the petition which lists four main goals (eradicate children’s poverty, increase social security, increase the supply of personal and health-care services, increase employment), learn about the many activities planned by Caritas in 2010, proclaimed by the EU as the Year Against Poverty, find tools and materials for local action… Read more »

VATICAN ACCOUNTS COULD IMPROVE IN 2010
