
The Church in Malta will celebrate the ordination of a new priest on Sunday, 8th February, 2026. The Apostolic Exarch to the Greek Byzantine Catholic Church, Mgr Manuel Nin O.S.B., in the presence of Archbishop Charles Scicluna, will ordain Rev. Jesmond Schembri, deacon of the Greek Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Damascus, Valletta, to the priesthood. The ordination mass will be celebrated at the Church of St Nicholas of Myra (Tal-Erwieħ) in Valletta at 9:30am.
About the new priest
Rev. Jesmond Schembri is 59 years old, originally from Siġġiewi, currently living in Mosta. He is presently the Director of the Migrants Commission of the Archdiocese of Malta. He holds a degree in social work and has spent most of his life working in this field. Between 2012 and 2022 he studied Theology at the University of Malta, where he obtained a Licentiate in Pastoral Theology. As a priest, he hopes to bring God’s mercy to others, especially through the Sacrament of Reconciliation
