On Wednesday, 24th November, 2010, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. presided over the award ceremony of the Mgr Azzopardi Award, at the Radisson Blu Resort, St. Julians. Mgr Lawrence Gatt and Fr Joseph Borg Micallef were the winners of the award for this year’s edition. Both winners worked closely with disabled persons and their families. Their work has contributed to the creation of a new social conscience with regards to disabled persons.
Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. praised the spirit adopted by both Mgr Gatt and Fr Borg in their work. He said that more work needs to be done in order to raise a more widespread national awareness with regards to disabled people. Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Dar tal-Providenza, remarked that it was Mgr Lawrence Gatt who started this award winning ceremony, and this year it was his turn to win it.
Dar tal-Providenza is celebrating the 30th anniversary from its founding and the 100th anniversary from the birth of its founder, Mgr Mikiel Azzopardi.
