Appointment of Auxiliary Bishop of Malta Mgr Joseph Galea-Curmi

  • The Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Monsignor Joseph Galea-Curmi as Auxiliary Bishop of Malta nominating him Titular Bishop of Cebarades. Presently, Monsignor Galea-Curmi is the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Malta.

    As Auxiliary Bishop, His Lordship Monsignor Galea-Curmi, 54, will be the closest collaborator and advisor of His Grace Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna with leadership responsibilities in the Curia and in diocesan pastoral ministry.

Around 40% attend Sunday mass regularly

74% go to mass at least once a month

  • A study commissioned by the Archdiocese of Malta shows that 92% of Maltese are Catholic, of whom 74% claim to go to Mass at least once a month. The research also shows that 40% attend Mass every Sunday. This was confirmed by the census held between the 2nd and 3rd December of last year, that showed that Mass attendance was at 38%.

    This research was carried out for the first time using different methods (a census as well as research) for the Church to have a wide and accurate picture of society in order to be more pastorally effective in the coming years…
