More than 200 priests are attending an in-service course at the Archbishop’s Seminary, Tal-Virtu.  The topic for this year’s course is ‘New’ Relationships: Theological/Pastoral Challenges.  This annual course which is spread over three days and will end tomorrow, Wednesday 13th June, is an important step for the on-going formation of every priest.  Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. is attending this in-service course together with the clergy.  The scope of the course is to stimulate discussion with respect to the situation – both present and future – in our country, in the light of the teachings of the Church and the addresses of Pope Benedict XVI.

The foreign guest speakers at this in-service course are both experts in moral theology:  Rev. Prof. Dr. Eberlhard Schockenhoff from the University of Freiburg, Germany and Rev. Prof. Dr Gunter Virt from the University of Vienna, Austria. There will also be contributions from local speakers. During the course, the clergy are discussing the implications of pastoral work with those people who are divorced and re-married, in the light of the teachings of the Church.  The clergy are also reflecting upon their role as mediators between God and his people; in which role they are to enlighten people’s consciences in order to help them make their individual choices according to their circumstances.

The in-service courses are organized by the Secretariat for the Clergy, under the leadership of the Archbishop’s delegate, Fr Frans Abdilla and the Commission for In-Service Courses which forms part of the Secretariat.  The Commission is chaired by Rev. Prof. Emanuel Agius.
