“In this land too, our Most Holy Mother is venerated in several shrines, ancient and modern. To her, I entrust all of you and the whole population of San Marino-Montefeltro, particularly the persons who are suffering in body and spirit”. Benedict XVI said this yesterday morning before praying the Angelus in the Stadium of Serravalle on his pastoral visit to the diocese of San Marino.

The Pope went on to recall the beatification, yesterday, in Dax, France, of “Sister Marguerite Rutan of the Daughters of Charity. In the second half of the eighteenth century, she worked with great commitment in the hospital in Dax, but in the tragic persecution that followed the Revolution, she was sentenced to death for her Catholic faith and fidelity to the Church”.

Finally, the Holy Father recalled that today is the World Refugee Day: “On this occasion, – the Pontiff said – this year we mark the sixtieth anniversary of the adoption of the international convention to protect those who are persecuted and forced to flee their countries”. So the Pope encouraged civil authorities and all people of good will “to guarantee a welcome and dignified living conditions for refugees, until they can return to their homeland freely and safely”.
