Dear brothers and sisters,

The General Election is an event of great importance in the life of Maltese society. We will be choosing those to whom we entrust the leadership of our country for the years ahead.

This is a serious responsibility on our shoulders, one that calls us to prepare ourselves well so that we may make an informed decision.

It is a responsibility that calls us to vote according to our conscience — which means that before God we recognise what is right and fitting, and choose what is truly for the common good and for a just society. Our vote is a response to the fundamental question: what kind of society do we wish to build for all of us and for the generations to come?

It is a responsibility that calls us to choose people of integrity and wisdom, who embrace and uphold the ethical values we believe in. Foremost among these is the value of protecting human life at every moment, and of respect for the dignity of every person, regardless of their race, skin colour, gender or religion.

We encourage everyone to pray for the light and guidance of the Holy Spirit so that we may fulfil our duty responsibly and make the right choice.

We pray that in our words — including what we write on social media — and in our actions, we may always be guided by a spirit of dialogue, of full respect for truth, and of esteem for one another, including for those who think differently from us.

We give you our pastoral blessing.
