The Pastoral Formation Institute (PFI) has concluded another successful academic year, supporting over 3,000 participants in their faith and ministerial journey in over 100 course occurrences. Many participants are active members within their ecclesial communities.
The academic year was officially brought to a close during an end-of-year event attended by students, lecturers and staff. The evening began with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated over by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi, followed by a time of fellowship.
Throughout the year, PFI delivered a range of skills-based micro-credentials—short, targeted courses designed to develop practical competencies for ministry and personal faith formation. These were offered primarily in Maltese, with English-language options available upon request.

Courses were delivered through flexible formats, including in-person sessions, hybrid participation (combining classroom and online learning via Zoom), and self-paced study through PFI’s virtual learning environment. This approach ensures accessibility and adaptability to participants’ diverse circumstances.
Participants consistently highlighted the practical and enriching nature of the courses. One student shared: “What stood out to me most was the simple yet heartfelt way the course brought the message of Jesus to life. I particularly valued the practical, hands-on approach, with tools I can readily use in catechism and in nurturing my own faith. It has helped me to share the Gospel more clearly and joyfully. Above all, it reminded me that we are called not only to teach the Word, but to live it each day.”
During the end-of-year celebration, PFI also launched its 2026–2027 prospectus, reaffirming its mission to empower the laity to contribute actively to a living Church. This year’s prospectus is aligned with both the Archdiocese of Malta’s Pastoral Plan for 2026–2029 and the universal Church’s call to walk a synodal path emphasising the attitudes of communion, participation, and mission.
