Today, Saturday 28th February 2026, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV appointed His Excellency Mgr Wojciech Załuski, Titular Archbishop of Diocleziana as the new Apostolic Nuncio in Malta. He is currently Apostolic Nuncio in Malaysia, East Timor and Apostolic Delegate in Brunei Darussalam.

H.E. Mgr Wojciech Załuski was born in Załuski-Lipnewo, Poland, on 5th April 1960. He was ordained a priest on 1st June 1989 to the Diocese of Łomża in Poland. He holds a Doctorate in Caon Law.

On 1st July 1989, he joined the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See and served in the following Apostolic Nunciatures: Burundi, Malta, Albania, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Ukraine, the Philippines and Guatemala.

On 15th July 2014, he was appointed as Apostolic Nuncio in Burundi and titular Archbishop of Diocleziana. On 29 September 2020, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Malaysia, East Timor and Apostolic Delegate in Brunei Darussalam.

As the Apostolic Nuncio in Malta, Archbishop Mgr Wojciech Załuski will represent the Holy Father and the Holy See both with regard to the Catholic Church in Malta and Gozo, as well as to the Civil Authorities. He will also be the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Republic of Malta. It is the duty of the Papal Representative to strengthen the bonds of communion between the Apostolic See and the Catholic Church present in the country where he is posted. For this reason, it is the responsibility of the Apostolic Nuncio to assist the Bishops of Malta and Gozo as they carry out their pastoral role. At the same time, the Nuncio will promote and facilitate the relations between the Government of Malta and the Holy See.
