On Saturday 14th January 2012, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. celebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta, for those couples who got married during 2011.
In his homily, Archbishop Cremona referred to Christian marriage as a vocation. He highlighted the importance of distinguishing between a wedding and Christian marriage. The Archbishop explained that the wedding lasts only for a day, whereas Christian marriage lasts a lifetime. Referring to the words of St Paul, as read during the liturgy, which describe the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit, the Archbishop stated that the Christian vocation transforms the way in which the human being views the sexual intimacy of the couple. He continued to say that the call to marriage implies a commitment in two particular areas: the importance of attending Sunday Mass and the participation of the spouses in Christian groups, where they may share the marital experience with other couples and be of support to one another.
On Sunday, 12th February 2012, the Archbishop will celebrate mass for those engaged couples who will be tying the know this year. This celebration will be held at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta, at 6.30pm.
