In anticipation of the forthcoming papal conclave, which will begin on 7th May 2025, the Archdiocese of Malta announces that a Mass for the election of the new Pope will be celebrated in all churches throughout the Archdiocese. Wherever possible, this liturgical celebration will be followed by half an hour of Eucharistic adoration. Each church is encouraged to schedule the celebration at a time most suitable to the pastoral needs of its community.
To mark the beginning of the conclave, all churches will ring their bells at 8am on the morning of 7th May.
During the days of the conclave, the Archdiocese invites all Christian communities to remain in prayerful communion through the celebration of the Holy Mass, offering special intentions for the election of the new Pope.
Upon the announcement of the new Successor of St Peter, churches throughout the Archdiocese will join in the joyful proclamation by sounding their bells for fifteen minutes. The Holy Mass will then be celebrated in all churches, with special prayers for the newly elected Pope.
These details have been communicated to all churches through a circular letter issued by the Archdiocese of Malta.
At this moment of great significance in the life of the Catholic Church, we pray that the Lord may grant wisdom, discernment and unity to the cardinals, and that the one chosen may be a pastor truly conformed to the heart of Christ.
