“German Churches congratulate Christian Wulff for being elected Federal President of Germany” on 30th June. Msgr. Robert Zollitsch, President of the Bishops’ Conference, and Nikolaus Schneider, President of the Council of the Evangelical Church gave the newly elected president their best wishes. The new president, said Msgr. Zollitsch, “accepts the task in a difficult situation”. As for Schneider, he points out “the great expectations and hopes linked to this election”. Therefore, both of them refer to the current situation. It is “important” – they say – that Wulff is able to “face great challenges”, thanks to his experience. In particular, Schneider says that with his political experience and his diplomacy, Wulff “convinced everyone that he will be able to face next challenges in the most adequate way”. The appointment of the new president was also approved and congratulated by the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZDK) and several bishops.
