In a significant appointment within the Carmelite community of Malta, Fr. Charles Mallia O.Carm has been elected as the Provincial Prior of the Carmelites for the upcoming three-year term.

This decision was reached during the inaugural session of the Provincial Chapter of the Maltese Carmelite Province.

Joining Fr. Mallia in his new role are Provincial Counsellors Fr. Maurice Abela O.Carm, Fr. Martin Schembri O.Carm, Fr. Alexander Scerri O.Carm, and Fr. Ivan Scicluna O.Carm.

Fr. Mallia brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having served in various capacities within the Maltese Carmelite Province.

Prior to his appointment as Provincial Prior, he held roles as Provincial Councillor, Rector of St. Elias College, and Superior of the communities in Santa Venera and Balluta. Notably, he has dedicated the past 13 years to serving as the Archbishop’s delegate for Christian Education.

The announcement of Fr. Mallia’s appointment was met with gratitude and acknowledgment from Carmelite Superior General Fr. Miceàl O’Neill, who expressed appreciation for the leadership of outgoing Provincial Prior Fr. Joe Saliba O.Carm and his Council.

Fr. Saliba, alongside his team, has overseen the affairs of the Maltese Carmelite Province for the past six years.
