Oħloq Tbissima Marathon will take place between noon of 14th July 2017 and midnight of 16th July 2017. This is the 15th edition of this live broadcasting marathon, organised by CAM Productions international, which is aimed at raising missionary awareness and raising funds for MSSP missions both locally and in Peru, Pakistan and the Philippines.
The MSSP priests who work in these missions work tirelessly and constantly try to come up with ways to help the people in their care. This is not always possible due to financial restraints.
Locally, MSSP priests run St Joseph Home in St Venera. This home cares for boys who are not able to live with their family. Presently, funds are needed to change some rooms into a small apartment so that boys who are 16 years or older can start living more independently whilst still being cared for and guided.
In Peru, the priests run a residential home which is house to a good number of children, they care for the old and sick, provide education to children and also run public kitchens and offer medical help in clinics. Obviously, the spiritual and pastoral care are also constantly offered. People here lack even the most basic of needs. All help given makes a big difference to the quality of their life.
In the Philippines, besides the spiritual and pastoral care, MSSP priests offer educational programmes for children and young adults. They also run a feeding programme ensuring that a healthy meal reaches the various zones. Fr Joe Cremona had stated an orchestra where children and youths can learn an instrument. This provided a good opportunity to get the children off the streets. MSSP priests give a lot of importance to education here, hoping to give them and their families a better future.
In Pakistan, the main missionary activity is in the educational field, where MSSP priests run a school where Catholics and Muslims learn together. They are also giving girls the opportunity to learn in a country where men are mostly promoted for education. Fr Bernard Mangion and Fr Gerald, presently wish to buy computers and other equipment, to be able to give them a more up-to-date education with the hope of finding work in the future.
Once again this year Oħloq Tbissima is being organised from the yard of St Joseph Home in St. Venera. As in previous years, a varied and entertaining programme is being put up. This includes time for prayer, mass, features, discussions, and variety shows with the best of local talent.
The public is encouraged to participate by visiting the venue, watching on local TV stations as well as by giving their monetary contribution.
