On Palm Sunday, 24th March 2013, the universal church marked the 30th Day of Youth, celebrated every Palm Sunday since 1983. The diocese of Malta, too, celebrated the faith of young people with a special mass with Archbishop Paul Cremona, in Santa Marija ta’ Bubaqra Church, Żurrieq.

Mons. Cremona greeting young people and reminded them that the historical events of Jesus’ suffering and death had at their centre his love for every person. In his homily, he drew attention to the fact that, on Palm Sunday, the people of Jerusalem mistook Jesus’ saving love for political heroism. Reflecting on this, the archbishop encouraged young people to assess their own understanding of Jesus in the light of the gospels.

Archbishop Cremona urged the young not to restrain their joy, and let it be a sign of their living encounter with God.

The celebration was hosted by the Parish of Żurrieq and organized by the liturgy team of Santa Marija ta’ Bubaqra youth mass. The Day of Youth in Malta is co-ordinated by the Commission for Young People within the Church (KDŻ).
