• On Tuesday 25th October 2016, Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna received the new Commissioner for refugees Dr Martine Cassar for a courtesy vist at the Archbishop’s Curia, Floriana. Mgr Alfred Vella, Director of the Malta Emigrants Commission was also present for this cordial meeting.

    Dr Martine Cassar was appointed as the new Commissioner for Refugees earlier this month. Prior to her appointment, Dr Cassar headed the office of an International Organisation based in Malta for over two years.

    Over the past five years she has been active in the field of migration, refugee law, and counter trafficking.

    The Office of the Refugee Commissioner, headed by the Refugee Commissioner, is responsible for receiving the processes and determining applications for international protection in Malta as stipulated by the Refugees Act.
