Next Sunday a Diocesan celebration will be organized on the occasion of the liturgical feast of Christ the King.  The theme for this year is “Sharing the joy of our faith with others” .  Fr Charles Cordina, the Pastoral Secretary, said that “this theme is based upon the topic of evangelization since the Archbishop has expressed the desire that the Pastoral Plan for the Church in Malta for the forthcoming three years should reflect the way in which the Church intends to re-kindle the hearts of those who have put their faith aside, in order that they may once again rediscover the beauty of Christian life”.  This also ties in with the thought of Pope Benedict XVI, who is encouraging the process of evangelization throughout the whole world, most especially in the Western countries, whose origins may be traced back to Christianity.  In fact, the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization was established in order to lead this project.  Apart from this, next year the Bishops of the world will come together to discuss this same topic.

The celebrations will include singing, a feature based upon the theme which will be presented by the MSSP Christian Family Group ‘Miskan’, and a message from Archbishop Paul Cremona OP.  The programme will commence at 4.00pm at the Santa Venera Parish Church.  The general public is invited to attend.

On Friday 18th November, adolescents, together with the Archbishop, will inaugurate the Christ the King celebrations, during a meeting entitled ‘Meeteen’ which will take place at the Inspire complex in Marsascala between 6.30 p.m. and 9.00 p.m. This year, the theme of this activity is “What is lacking?”; this should help adolescents to focus upon questions concerning their faith.

This annual meeting brings together hundreds of adolescents aged between 12 and 16.  The format is different every year: this edition will include a varied programme with videos, group activities, live music and time for prayer.  Meeteen 2011 is being organized by ACTS in conjunction with the Diocesan Youth Commission. ACTS is a voluntary group of youths who tour local schools promoting a Christian message.  For more information, please contact www.kdz.org.mt

In preparation for the liturgical feast of Christ the King, on Saturday 19th November, Archbishop Cremona will also meet with children in an activity which will bring together several groups of children from parishes and groups.  The programme consists of singing, dancing and games.  This activity will take place at St Monica School Birkirkara at 3.45pm.  The Commissioner for Children, Ms Helen D’Amato shall attend this activity which is also being organized on the occasion of Childrens Day.
