Between the 6th and the 13th of September 2024, the 115th anniversary of the opening of the Tarxien SDC Centre was commemorated. It was on the 6th of September 1909 when the first Centre was opened in Tarxien with Spiridione Spiteri being the first local superior. This event was celebrated with all the children and teenagers who attend the Centre and also with the benefactors of the Centre. An audio-visual video was produced to expose the history of this Centre. Additionally, youth and benefactors were invited for a barbeque in the yard of the Centre, where the SDC Member Emanuel Mizzi shared a reflection on gratitude.
The culmination of the activities was reached through a mass in Tarxien Parish Church on Sunday September 8. A commemorative bookmark with the logo for this occasion was distributed to all those present. Thanks to Luke Debono, a teenager who attends the SDC Centre, who designed this logo.
At the Centre, a presentation, titled From Desire to Reality, and several historical items related to this event were exhibited. Among them was the painting of the Madonna of the Verbum Dei which was given to St George Preca by Rafel Bonnici Cali.
