The Vatican Web page Pope2you.net has made it possible this Christmas to send Benedict XVI a personalized Christmas card through e-mail or the social networking site Facebook. Father Paolo Padrini, the project’s coordinator, told ZENIT of the site’s newest features for Christmas.

Lady of Guadalupe

More than 6.1 million pilgrims visited the Basilica of Guadalupe on Friday and Saturday to mark the 478th anniversary of the apparitions of the Virgin to Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac, according to the official figures made public Saturday night.

The figure breaks the historic attendance record set in 2008 when just over 6 million pilgrims visited the shrine last year on the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, considered the most important day in the religious calendar for Mexicans… Read more »

Brazil's flag

An agreement signed by the Holy See and Brazil entered into force today, with a formal ratification ceremony in the Vatican. The agreement, signed Nov. 13, 2008, “consolidates further the traditional bonds of friendship and collaboration existing between the two parties,” a communiqué from the Holy See stated.

The agreement has a preamble and 20 articles, which regulate the juridical status of the Catholic Church in Brazil, recognition of degrees, religious education in public schools, and canonical marriage, among other things… Read more »

When a priest begins to pray less, his own faith is weakened and the Christian community he cares for suffers, says the prefect of the Congregation for Clergy.

Cardinal Cláudio Hummes said this in a letter he wrote for priests on the importance of prayer. It was released by the dicastery today.
