Millions of citizens of countries from all over the world enter Vatican territory every year to visit the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica or catch a glimpse of the pope on a Sunday in St. Peter’s Square. But only a select 572 souls can claim citizenship of the Vatican itself, statistics released March 1 showed.

BENEDICT XVI’s BOOK RELEASED NEXT WEEK

Pope's new book

Benedict XVI’s new book, “Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week — From the Entrance into Jerusalem to the Resurrection,” will be presented in the Vatican on March 10. The Pope’s book is being released in Italian by the Vatican Publishing House, and in English by Ignatius Press. It will also be published in German, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Polish.

A press conference will be held for the presentation of the book, with the participation of Cardinal Marc Ouellet, prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, and Claudio Magris, a writer and German scholar… Read more »

BENEDICT XVI TO PRAY FOR LATIN AMERICA IN MARCH

Benedict XVI is dedicating the month of March to pray for Latin America, so that the nations of the continent become more just and peaceful.

The Apostleship of Prayer announced the intentions chosen by the Pope for this month. His general intention is: “That the nations of Latin America may walk in fidelity to the Gospel and progress in justice and peace.”

The Pontiff’s apostolic intention for March is: “That the Holy Spirit may give light and strength to those in many regions of the world who are persecuted and discriminated against because of the Gospel.”

POPE SPEAKS ABOUT THE LANGUAGE OF THE NEW MEDIA

At midday today, Benedict XVI received participants in the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications who are currently meeting to reflect on the question of language and new technology.

The Pope noted how “ideas and relations are always part of the modality of language, understood, naturally, in a broad and not only a verbal sense”. In this context he affirmed that “the new languages being developed in digital communications lead, among other things, to capacities that are more intuitive and emotional than analytical, tending towards a different logical organisation of our ideas and our relationship with reality, often privileging images and hypertextual links”… Read more »

KDZ General Assembly for Youth
