Twenty Caritas Malta volunteers working in various Diaconia Commissions all over Malta have acquired first hand experience of poverty and social exclusion issues in Italian cities by successfully completing a two-week Leonardo Mobility Traing Placement as guests of Caritas Europa.

The majority of bishops’ conferences in the Americas, Europe and Asia have complied with a Vatican mandate to draw up anti-abuse guidelines, said the Vatican’s top investigator of clerical sex abuse. Speaking from his summer residence at Castel Gandolfo, Pope Benedict XVI spoke about Sunday’s Gospel, which tells how Jesus, when He had returned to His hometown of Nazareth, was rejected by His own people. “This fact is understandable,” the Pope said, “because familiarity at the human level makes it difficult to go beyond that and to be open to the divine dimension.”
